Lorem Ipsum Generator
Generate Lorem Ipsum placeholder text in paragraphs, sentences or words, see the word count, and copy it in one click.
What it does
- Three modes: paragraphs, sentences or words
- Any count from 1 to 100
- Word count shown after each generation
- Classic opening: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
- One-click copy, runs entirely in the browser via WebAssembly
This Lorem Ipsum generator produces placeholder text for mockups, wireframes and templates. Choose paragraphs, sentences or words, set a count from 1 to 100, and click Generate. The output always opens with the classic "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit." and the tool shows how many words it produced, so you can fill a layout to a known length. Text is generated by a Rust module compiled to WebAssembly in your browser.
How to generate Lorem Ipsum
- Pick a mode: Paragraphs, Sentences or Words. Paragraphs is selected by default, and three paragraphs are generated when the page loads.
- Enter how many items you want in the Count field, between 1 and 100. Values above 100 are capped at 100.
- Click Generate. The text appears in the output box and the line below it reports the word count.
- Click the copy icon above the output to put the whole text on your clipboard, then paste it into your design tool, CMS or code.
Paragraphs, sentences or words: which mode to use
- Paragraphs: each paragraph contains 4 to 6 sentences, and paragraphs are separated by a blank line. Use it for article bodies, blog templates, long product descriptions and anything where you need to see how text wraps across several blocks.
- Sentences: sentences of 8 to 14 words, each ending with a period, on a single line. Use it for card descriptions, captions, testimonials and short intros where one or two sentences is the real-world length.
- Words: a plain run of words with no punctuation, starting with "Lorem". Use it for headings, button labels, navigation items, table cells and any field with a strict character budget.
A practical rule: match the mode to the content that will eventually replace it. If the final copy is a 60-word product blurb, generate sentences until the word count reads about 60. If it is a headline, generate 5 to 8 words.
What the generated text looks like
The generator draws from a fixed list of 118 Latin-style words taken from the traditional Lorem Ipsum passage, the scrambled Cicero text that typesetters have used as filler for centuries. Sentence lengths vary so the text has a natural rhythm rather than a uniform block. Two details are worth knowing:
- Deterministic output: the same mode and count always produce the same text. That is useful for screenshots and visual regression tests, where random filler would make every capture different.
- Plain text only: the output contains no HTML tags. Wrap it in
<p>elements yourself if your template needs markup, or paste it straight into a design tool.
Common use cases
- Wireframes and mockups: fill text frames in Figma, Sketch or a slide deck so stakeholders judge layout, not wording.
- Front-end development: test how components handle long titles, overflowing cards and multi-paragraph content before the API returns real data.
- CMS and theme testing: populate a staging site with posts of different lengths to check typography, line height and pagination.
- Database seeding: generate description fields of a known length for fixtures and demo data.
- Print and PDF layouts: check how many words fit a column before copy is written.
Limits and things to watch
- Maximum of 100 items: 100 paragraphs is several thousand words. Generate twice if you need more.
- Latin only: there is no option for other languages or for real-word filler. Lorem Ipsum has a different letter rhythm from English or German, so check final layouts with real copy too.
- Do not ship it: placeholder text left in production is indexed by search engines and looks broken to users. Search your project for "Lorem ipsum" before release.
- Accessibility checks: screen readers will read the Latin as gibberish, so run accessibility reviews on real content.
Compared with other ways to get placeholder text
Word processors have built-in generators (in Microsoft Word, typing =lorem() and pressing Enter inserts Lorem Ipsum), and many design tools offer plugins. Code editors such as VS Code expand an Emmet abbreviation like lorem20 into 20 words. Those are convenient inside their own app. A browser generator works the same way everywhere, gives you an exact word count, and needs no plugin or account.
Generated locally
Lorem Ipsum is not sensitive data, but the tool follows the same rule as every VaultTools page: nothing is sent to a server. The text is built by WebAssembly in your tab, without tracking what you generate, and the page keeps working offline after the first load.
Frequently asked questions
- What is Lorem Ipsum?
- Dummy text derived from a passage of Cicero's "De finibus bonorum et malorum", scrambled so it reads like Latin without making sense. Designers use it so readers focus on layout rather than content.
- How many words are in a Lorem Ipsum paragraph here?
- Each paragraph has 4 to 6 sentences of 8 to 14 words, so roughly 40 to 80 words. The exact total for your output is shown under the text box after each generation.
- Does every result start with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet"?
- Yes, in paragraph and sentence mode the first sentence is always the classic opening. In word mode the first word is "Lorem".
- Can I generate HTML paragraphs?
- No, the output is plain text with paragraphs separated by blank lines. Wrap each block in
<p>tags yourself, or use a Markdown to HTML converter, which turns blank-line separated text into paragraphs. - Why do I get the same text each time?
- The generator is deterministic: the same mode and count give the same output. That keeps screenshots and tests reproducible.
- Is there a limit?
- Up to 100 paragraphs, sentences or words per click.
Related tools: paste the text into the word and character counter to check it against a field limit, or preview it as formatted HTML with the Markdown to HTML preview. To present a screenshot of the finished layout, the screenshot mockup frame tool wraps it in a browser or phone frame, and the local workflow for designers collects the other tools used during a handoff.
